Restyle the entry or foyer
Day 3 Home for the Holidays

Today we are back to the foyer in our Home for the Holidays Challenge Day 3. The place where you make a first impression to your guests.

Some people rarely enter their house through the front door. You mostly enter through the garage or kitchen, or another door.

Either way let’s look at the entry with fresh eyes now that the coat closet has some breathing room. If you’re just joining the challenge you can catch up with Day 1 here.

Does the rug in your entry need a good cleaning? Or to be replaced? Does the lightbulb in the lamp work? Need to dust the chandelier?

If your house is grand central station like mine your foyer is full of random shoes, backpacks, misplaced homework, and stray library books. Let’s get it ship shape and guest ready.

You want this space to be welcoming yet functional and show your personality.

Some items to consider to restyle your foyer for the Home for the Holidays Challenge.

  • Lighting: table lamps, chandeliers, floor lamps, uplights (can lighting), candles
  • Softness: rugs or smaller  runners
  • Seating: benches, chairs, ottomans, stools
  • Storage: dressers, credenzas, armoires, large baskets, stacked luggage, umbrella stands, hooks
  • Personality: family photos, art, souvenirs
  • Reflection: mirrors, glass, mercury glass
  • Life: plants, flowers, clocks with pendulums

You do not need to have all of these items. In  my own foyer I only have enough space  for a small console table.

Here are a variety of inspiration images to help you restyle your foyer.

Foyers and powder rooms are great places to experiment, have fun and jazz things up a bit with an unusual color.  This works because everything else is neutral and symmetrical. I love that pop of hot pink in the console table.

A fun way to add greenery to your entry way with faux plants and reflection with glass apothecary jars.

A great alternative to a mirror in the foyer is a clock.  Check out this big vintage beauty. And a great use for those seasonal quote pillows.

Here is a similarly styled entryway with a mirror this time and more baskets and seasonal quote photos.  I love the whimsy in using the rain boots for “vases” for the dried flowers.
