What’s your purpose for money? This weeks burning question

This weeks burning question, “What’s your purpose for money?” was posed by the sizzling  Danielle LaPorte from White Hot Truth.  Of course initially, I know your thinking, my purpose for money is to buy stuff- and lots of it.  We are living in the Age of Abundance and I was right there with you-a few years ago.  The Age of Abundance has been going strong for quite awhile until the Second Great Depression of 2008 showed up.  Shopping malls and big box stores of every ilk and type are within a stones throw away from many of us.  And, if you live in the boonies you can always shop via the internet.

Be honest, hasn’t all that meaningless shopping still left you unfulfilled?  Is it worth it to sneak packages into the house?  How many pairs of shoes do you really need?  Don’t get me wrong- I love nice, beautiful things, but I now buy things that are truly speak to me, that I need, and are inspirational have some personal story or meaning.  For me, the days of excess and shopping out of boredom are over.

Today, my purpose for money now and in the future is to:

  • Have my husband find his soul- fulfilling purpose and not travel away from the family for work
  • Support organizations and companies that are environmentally responsible
  • Take my entire family (grandparents, adult children+ spouses, and grandchildren) on a yearly vacation.
  • Buy goods and products from independent artisans
  • Support small local farmers + artisans
  • Buy organic foods
  • Gift money to family and friends in need
  • Raise money for the Sickle Cell Foundation and the American Cancer Society
  • Only buy products that are significant and meaningful to me
  • Invest in activities that feed my soul and purpose

Even if I had a gazillion dollars there are some things I  would just never purchase.  Join the conversation, and tell me what is the purpose for your money?  To what purpose to do you want to put your money?  What would you or would you not invest in?
