Friday Find: Meet Restoration Hardware Teen

Meet RH Teen

Several years ago Restoration Hardware launched its baby & child line to the yuppie, hipster, design-focused DINKS (Double Income No Kids). See we were cool before all the texting acronyms started flying about. Anyway, the DINKS had money to burn and wanted to spare no expense for their first babies accoutrements.

Now, those little brats children have grown up and are on their way to tween-teendom. Since these lads have been lavished in cashmere onesies, reproduction French tufted cribs, and mini distressed leather chesterfield sofas in their playrooms they have a taste for money. But don’t all kids…when they don’ have to earn it?

It would require the  jaws of life for Restoration Hardware to let these kids out of their clutches. So recently RH expanded its collection from the cradle to RH Teen market. The collection is not all pint-sized versions of the grown up stuff.

Restoration Hardware has created approximately seven well-thought out personas for the teen girl and boy which run the gamut of the nature-loving wild and free, the typical glitzy-glam girl, and the leather loving rebel.

Expect lots of faux fur, bling-y chandeliers, and industrial metal furnishings with leather and rivets.

Design Tip:

These high-style brands for kids have a wide range of furnishings, linens, lighting, and decor. (check out the 200 page RH Teen tome) Just because an item is branded as kids or teen does not mean you can’t use a nightstand as an accent table in a corner of your living room at a fraction of the cost of the brands main living room furnishings.

Use a teen collection lamp or mirror in your entry way or foyer. Oran RH Teen throw pillow on your sofa or guest room bed.

For example an RH Teen 9′ X 12′ hand tufted wool rug is $1599 vs an RH  9′ X 12′ 80% viscose 20% nylon rug for $7465

Let’s face it-this teen furniture is probably nicer than what most of us have in our homes.

Here are a couple of my favorites from the RH teen collection.

Fashion magazines and design school taught me everything I know about interiors: how to read a silhouette, a texture, a mood.
