Layers help to ensure that luxe festive look and elevates the meal from any other Sunday dinner. Basic table layers include some or all of these depending upon your level of formality when entertaining.
- A tablecloth or runner
- Placemat
- Charger- which holds the dinner plate
- Utensils
- Drinking glasses
- Centerpieces or table decorations
- Napkin/ napkin rings
- Place cards if you want to assign seating (We don’t assign seats but sometimes they are just fun to make and look pretty.)

Can’t get enough o these gold pumpkins this year even though everyone is all gaga over the herloom white or painted white pumpkins. I love the mercury glass ones too. The idea of rustic burlap mixed with dressed up metallic pumpkins and sparkly pinecones elevates the natural nature of this tablescape. So easy to pull off.

You will be deemed so bad ass Matha Stewart-ish if you place these simple rosemary sprig placement cards on each plate. This idea gives a lot of bang for nearly free and a little time. I’m no hosting Thanksgiving this year but going got my sister-in-laws instead. But I think I will do this at her house. I’ll get the “your so creative” squeal. lol

This is fun and festive holiday table idea uses jewel tone colors found in natural fruits and berries. She used clementines instead of pumpkins for the vibrant orange color as well as artichokes, moss, and berries white pumpkins. The colors really pop against the white runner.

Modern black white and yellow table. Fun graphic paper ‘trees’ down the center add whimsy to this non-traditional palette. I love the ornaments as place cards. Just add a few votive candles for accent lighting.

This is the color palette I usually use for Christmas. So easy to fill clear glass vases with ornaments and line them up down the dining table or buffet table or fireplace mantle.

Can’t you just image the snow falling outside, Christmas carols playing, and the aroma of the turkey in the oven with this classic christmas table setting? This may look involved and complicated but its not. To achieve this easy and festive holiday table clear glass jars are filled with epsom salt, fresh cranberries and sprigs of juniper or whatever bush or evergreen tree you have in your yard. The jars alternate with berries and candles.

Don’t forget the kiddos. Make their table fun and festive too. I bought my kids melamine plates and Christmas placemats years ago and although they are tweens now they enjoy putting them out in December and counting down the days on their placemats. A great investment for the memories.
If you have to have a secondary table to accommodate guest keep the same level of detail on the secondary table so guest sitting at that table don’t feel like an after thought. Sure it may be teenagers or college kids at the table but make them feel welcome too.
You can dress your coffee table out as well with a simpler runner and arrangement and maybe floor cushions if you have a big group and need the additional area for older kids or teens.
