Okay, we are at the halfway mark of this six week One Room Challenge and things are beginning to crank right along. In reality, it appears not much is happening because we are waiting on product to arrive.

If this is your first week visiting and have no idea what I’m referring to you can read all about the One Room Challenge Week 1 and One Room Challenge Week 2 to get caught up on where this project started and the goals for making over my daughter’s bedroom.

Let there be light!

We left off with the walls transforming from baby pink to a rich dark satin black by Sherwin Williams. In my daughter’s eyes that is all that needs to be done, paint all five walls black, throw a black comforter on the bed and call it done!

Angsty teens…gotta love ’em.

Ms. K isn’t one for many colors or prints. Her go-to colors are black on black, and maybe a camouflage pattern or two which shakes out to the urban industrial vibe we finally settled on to set the tone for Ms. K’s room.

Out with the old matte brass and crystal chandy and in with a cleaner, more minimal pendant light fixture. Check it out. I really like it.

The new light fixture gets a big thumbs up. It was larger than i thought it would be in person but the scale is perfect for the size of the room and the ceiling height. In hindsight, the old fixture was too small for the room. However, I’m cutting myself some slack on that decision since I was juggling a move with two kids under the age of two at the time and a husband that travelled weekly.

A place for homework

A desk was at the top of Miss K’s must-have items for her room. She wanted to reuse the one she had which wasn’t going to fit with a new larger, more functional dresser.

The challenge was to find a desk that was compact but provided some storage and an efficient work space. We finally found one that met the style, storage, and size requirements and Miss K and her dad set about putting the million pieces together.

Tadah…we have a desk!

Next week the rest of the furniture should be in and I can not wait to get the graffiti mural up. Still working on bedding and window treatments.  See you next week.
