It is One Room Challenge Teen Girl Bedroom Week 2. If you missed last weeks announcement you can learn all about The One Room Challenge,  where we started and a mood board we are working towards here in week 1.

We got a late start this week because I was very ill most of the week and just started feeling better a day or so ago. In that time the pink walls have vanished and we had the walls patched, primed,  and painted a deep moody black in a satin finish.

Beware of dark paint colors with less than perfect walls in a satin finish because the finish does tend to show every flaw, but this finish was specified to hold up to a teenager and to be easily cleanable so I am okay with the finish.

Primer and first coat of paint

Loving the big change from pink walls to black. This weekend we have finished all of the painting of the ceiling, doors, windows, walls and trim. What a relief to have that finally finished and the old beaten up furniture is on the curb for trash day this week. Woohooo we are making progress!

All new furniture has been ordered and scheduled for delivery in the next couple of weeks. Ms. K is insisting on a desk for  her room. I think it will be a tight squeeze but we will see what we can find locally.

All other major pieces of furniture have been ordered which include a new custom upholstered headboard. New ceiling light, and much needed full size dresser, nightstand, and a new mattress.

Also need to work on some bedding options and window treatment fabrics since Fall has finally peaked her head out and made an appearance a few days ago. Must address privacy and insulation issues with the windows. And finally the carpet received a good cleaning.

I can not wait for the arrival of the graffiti wall mural. It should arrive any day now!

I’m Lovin’ these black walls… sshh, don’t tell Ms. K. it will be our secret. What do you think? Would you ever go this dark with a paint color in your own home?
